Finding Joy

Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.
— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Brothers & Sisters,

What emotion besides joy has such a range? From smiling to crying through that smile, there are no boundaries to this beautiful emotion. Why then do we lack joy in our world? I've argued in the past that it is far more difficult to be angry and stay that way than just be a happy person that seeks to find the good in the bad at all times.

Our emotions are our currency, our glue, part of our humanity, and nature. Therefore we might be gun-shy when it comes to doling out happiness and joy when we think that the status quo, middle of the road emotions are just fine. Stop being meh, and eh and start being glorious and excellent. This isn't difficult and doesn't require much of a shift in your mindset. Stop and look around you, find something beautiful, allow that beauty to fill your heart with joy and then move on. Feeling that joy gauge head towards empty? Stop, rinse, and repeat the previous steps. Not only will you find God in everything (if you believe in this sort of thing) but you'll be able to find and see beauty where ever you are.

One of the best things about joy is that it's contagious. Being around joyous people will start making you feel a bit happier every day. Imagine if just 10 people a day found joy and made an effort to be joyous instead of meh and eh? The world would find happiness in no time at all, and we'd all be living in a much better universe. Now that's a pyramid scheme I can get behind, and that won't get us arrested.

Brothers and sisters, I challenge you to open your hearts, minds, and souls and embrace the spectacular feeling that joy can give you. It doesn't take much but gives so much more. Why would we ever turn from that?

Yours,
Jeff
