Persistence

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
— Thomas A. Edison

Brothers & Sisters,

I think you don't get anywhere by not caring about where you're going. Just going with the flow it seems is a fallacy perpetuated by optimists that probably find themselves always stuck in a rut. Now I'm not saying that being an optimist is a bad thing. But I do question what people that are always cheery but never seem to get anywhere are doing to make their worlds better. Perhaps they find themselves in such a comfortable state that their optimism is actually just an invitation to join them in their pool of mediocrity?

Persistence is just as important on our path as determination and motivation. Without persistence, we end up going in circles and not knowing where to go when we taste defeat. What would we be without that little voice in our heads that tells us to get back up and get moving? I wonder how loud that voice actually is. Beyond helping us focus perhaps it also refreshes the goal for us and presents in it a different light that we hadn't seen before.

Everything we do speaks volumes to the end goals of our lives and how we achieve ultimate happiness and live a good life. So why in the world would we ever settle? Why would we ever believe someone when they tell us that "it just is what it is" or "just go with the flow". The more I think about these comments the more empty I feel that they are. Things are the way they are because we choose to make them that way. Energy in, energy out.

Yours,
Jeff
